2022 February DITL: Last Day of Florida Vacation

Day in The Life in Florida during Mid-Winter Vacation

GOOD MORNING! We watch the sun rise over the ocean.

Morning yogurt and screen time for the children

Jake and I take our coffee and head out for an early walk along the beach

 A jellyfish washed up overnight

It is wonderful to walk and savor the sunshine.

I spend some time working on reading articles for my virtual class and leave comments for the presenters

It's getting sunny and warm-- time to head to the ocean to cool off!

The kids really enjoy playing in the sand-- digging holes, making castles, and burying themselves.

There's lots of wave-surfing too!

Post-ocean rinsing of sand and we climb the stairs to floor 5

Another beautiful, clear-sky day!

Make lunch for the children and the adults head downstairs for our own food

Lunch is delicious!

Kids take a break from the sunshine and spend time drawing. This keeps them occupied for much longer than anticipated! Nap time also happens.

Heading to dinner-- Gator's at the Port

After ordering, we take the kids for a walk to see the big ships

CC stops to smell the flowers and all the kids inspect the hanging tiger shark

Dinner is devoured by all

After dinner, we park illegally and take a photo on the surfboard

Peacock roosting!

Walk along the "secret path" at Aunt Debbie's to the ocean

We see some smoke from Cape Canaveral-- we think they are testing and preparing for an upcoming launch

Aunt Debbie gave ice cream cones to the kids and they enjoyed eating on the beach

Big boys say "Goodbye" to the ocean

Time to start packing!

Final swim is enjoyed by all.

Everything is packed and ready to go for the early wake-up! Kids have a bit of screens before heading to bed.

Just before going to sleep, Daddy gets an email saying our flight home the next morning is CANCELLED! We immediately pull out our computers and start looking for alternatives. It's very hard-- all other flights to the NorthEast are either full or cancelled due to the big snowstorm.

Make the essential call to change our rental car return... not quite sure if we're going to drive 20+ hour from FL to CT or try to get another flight at this point later in the weekend.

The next day, exhausted after a stressful Thursday night.
Daddy found a flight from Orlando to Wilmington, DE. We book it and a rental car from Wilmington to drive 5 hours to CT (to pick up our car at the airport we originally came from) and then 2 hours more driving back home. It's a very long, crazy story that involves a ride in a police car and the Presidential airplane... but we arrived safely around 1 am on Saturday morning.
So happy to be home!
See you in March, DITL!
