Jake and I took an adult-only vacation in Maine to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. Since we were so close, we decided to make a day trip to Acadia National Park.
We have a quick breakfast in our cozy cottage on the coast before leaving early in the morning.
GPS tells us that we have a 2-hour drive ahead.
En route.
When we arrive, the ranger at the park entrance tells us that it's a free pass day to celebrate the
"Great American Outdoors Act", which is wonderful but also means that Acadia is a sea of humanity.

We start on the Ocean Paths trail
It ends at the final green point at the top of this photo
The cliffs are beautiful to walk out onto and watch the waves crashing
Stop for some refreshment along the way!
Obligatory photo of the striated rock to send home for our middle schooler
I liked watching this seagull out on the rocks
We watched some people rappelling down the cliff face.
Otter Cliffs
We are still feeling pretty good, so we decide to keep going!
Next up, Otter Cove which heads inland
We decide to hike up the Gorham Mountain Trail
"Pathmaker" and wild Maine blueberries
Made it to the top!
We crushed that mountain trail!
Made it to the Bowl! Feeling a little sweaty and tired, but let's keep going!
This should have been a warning...
Beehive!
It's a beautiful view from the top of the Beehive summit, but the path down was scary and steep.
By this point, our legs were tired and made of jello, so it was extra fun to walk downhill.
A fun perspective from part of the Beehive trail-- we started the day on the Ocean path which is all the way at the end, then hiked inland to Otter Cove, then up TWO mountain trails. We covered almost 7 miles!
So we headed to Sand Beach where Jake could bathe his blistered toes
We ended up at the Trackside restaurant in Rockland for some much-needed dinner on our way home.
Sunset at our cottage!
Good night, DITL-- see you in September
